The Trans Studies Institute (TSI) is a first-of-its-kind program convening scholars, activists, writers, and community members to engage in trans scholarship. The program brings students to work with top scholars and activists from around the country. Each semester of the program focuses on a different topic within trans studies, activism, and culture. Applications for the inaugural cohort will open in 2025.
Learning from the Black Panther Party’s Freedom Schools and the Highlander Research and Education Center, a rotating faculty of transgender activists and scholars design and teach TSI curricula alongside students. TSI’s featured speakers and seminar leaders, primarily trans BIPOC scholars and organizers, work directly with participants to expand their understanding of trans studies and foster participation in public discussion.
TSI is resourced through community contributions and values-aligned foundation partners. It is completely free for most students.
